The Story of How It All Began at Satellite High School in Classroom 1305

In 2005, I began my teaching journey at Satellite High School, in Classroom #1305. My first parent conferences were filled with one common word: “Struggles.” Parents shared their concerns, saying, “He struggles in school,” or “She struggles to keep up.” Every year, I heard these same words, until one day…

Out of necessity, the “1305 Practice” was born. My first year as a teacher was a challenge. I was assigned a class of 25 students—my “Sweathogs.” They weren’t excited to be there. Many had failed standardized tests, and none of them wanted to be in “Intensive Reading Class.” But that wasn’t going to stop me. I was determined to connect with each student, understand their struggles, and support them in their journey.

The first day was rough. When I asked them what they hoped to learn, their responses ranged from “Nothing” to “I shouldn’t be in this class.” But I was committed. I promised them a journey, and I made it clear that I believed in their potential. The parents, too, were skeptical when I called them that evening. But by the next day, something had changed. Students were ready to give me a chance.

Over the course of that year, I built strong relationships with my students, guiding them through their educational struggles without lowering my expectations. My “Sweathogs” began to thrive. They learned organizational skills, study habits, the importance of relationships, and how to make good choices. They started respecting their families and themselves.

Today, many of those students are thriving in careers as business owners, college graduates, military members, nurses, teachers, and more. They found their intrinsic motivation and created fulfilling lives. I am incredibly proud of them!

The “1305 Practice” continues today, based on the same principles that helped my students succeed: organization, routine, respect, confidence, motivation, and making good choices. Through a 10-week program, I will guide you and your student in setting goals, building routines, and creating a system of expectations, consequences, and rewards. This approach replaces chaos and anxiety with calm, empowering both students and parents.

Join us today to start the journey of transformation.

this would be great and I understand the reason for the cost; BUT we don’t have that kind of money. AND what state are you in? We are in Pa.
